Two time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, retained his titles following his ninth-round knockout victory against Pulev on December 12th. Joshua performed excellently from the first round, all the way to the ninth, never giving his opponent a chance to find his rhythm. Joshua dealt a barrage of punches and jabs around the mid-rounds, leaving Pulev reeling. By the ninth round, Pulev was already at his limit. Joshua seized the opportunity, dealing his opponent with a series of uppercuts until the deciding punch came, which sent Pulev to the ground. Now the question on most boxing fans' minds is: Will Joshua vs Fury happen in 2021?

What would be special about Joshua vs Fury?

With his latest victory, Anthony Joshua retains his WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles. Tyson Fury (aka Gypsy King) still retains the WBC belt after defeating Deontay Wilder, former WBC heavyweight champion. A boxer who retains the 4 belts (WBA, WBO, IBF, and WBC) at the same time would be proclaimed an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Considering the fact that Joshua is retaining 3 of the belts and Fury retains one, fans want both fighters to clash for a unification of the belts to occur.

After the match, Anthony Joshua disclosed that he's chasing the belts, not the opponents. He stated that it's about winning the title and becoming undisputed even if his opponent is Tyson Fury.

Attention has now been turned towards the anticipated clash. Fans are currently wondering if the clash between the heavyweights will now take place or if they will have to wait longer.

It is speculated that the match between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could be the biggest boxing fight in nearly fifty years. Both boxers are part of the trio that dominates their division including Deontay Wilder.

Ever since Joshua's win against Pulev, fans have already started itching for the showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. The match between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury was decided in favor of Fury despite controversies over their first fight. Now both AJ and Fury each hold four heavyweight titles.

Before the fight against Pulev, Eddie Hearn who is Anthony Joshua's promoter disclosed that he was fairly confident that the match between Fury and Joshua will hold.

Will Joshua vs Fury happen in 2021?

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have agreed financial terms to clash twice in 2021. Although it is not a complete deal yet as there are many huddles that need to be overcome, but with the agreement of the two fighters, there is a good chance the huge battle will take place.

It is a two-fight agreement which states that the first match will be an equal split in cash. The rematch will then be a 60-40 split favoring the winner.

The venue of the matches hasn't been disclosed yet but there are speculations that it might take place in the Middle East. But before the fight can take place, Fury still has to resolve his dispute with Wilder. Deontay Wilder insists that Fury still owes him another fight. If it is decided that Fury and Wilder fight a third time, the anticipated 'biggest heavyweight boxing fight' might end up not happening.

Also, early next year, Anthony Joshua would have to fight WBO challenger, Oleksander Usyk. The fight against Fury wouldn't be undisputed anymore if Usyk forces Joshua to vacate his heavyweight titles. Usyk has revealed that he isn't considering stepping aside and demands to have a chance at the title.

Many hurdles still remain to be crossed before the big fight. Although the financial agreement between Joshua and Fury places things into perspective. There are still many variables that could lead to decisions being changed.
