Unlocking your mobile phone with fingerprint is an added advantage. However, your phone could ask for your password at an embarrassing moment. If you have set up a very long or difficult password for your mobile phone. Enabling fingerprint or face ID makes unlocking quite easy. This means that many times you would be able to unlock your mobile phone without entering the password. Still, there are advantages and disadvantages.

One advantage is that, there are times that you would prefer not to make your password known to certain people. Occasionally such people might try to borrow your mobile phone probably to make a quick call. You could simply unlock with your fingerprint or face ID and hand your phone over to them.

In a subtle way, by using fingerprint or face ID to unlock, you have accomplished two things. 1. You did not have to divulge your password. 2. You did not have to say ‘No, I cant give you my password’ and look paranoid or silly.

Disadvantages of enabling fingerprint unlock on your phone

If you have fingerprint or face ID enabled on your mobile phone, then occasionally you might be prompted to enter a password before unlocking your phone. Occasional password prompts on mobile phones have some advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that, for some reason, fingerprint or face recognition might fail. This could happen if there were some damage to your phone.

A drop for instance might cause your fingerprint or face ID device to become faulty. Also, if you have not used your password to unlock your mobile phone in a long time, you might forget it. By entering your passwords periodically, there is a very low chance of forgetting it and getting locked out completely.

However, the prompt for password to unlock your mobile phone could come at the most inconvenient or embarrassing moment. For instance, you might be hiding your password for a certain person. That person could be your partner, friend, sibling, parent etc. Then at some point you might want to show them a picture or something else on your phone. And suddenly, your mobile phone says 'you need to enter a password to proceed this time'.

In your mind you would probably be thinking ‘damn! why now?’. Then there is that feeling in the other person’s find like ‘finally, I will get to know her password’. The feeling of getting to know your password at that time is probably more exciting than the content you wanted to show on your phone.

There are two ways out of such situation. 1. You could just enter your password and pretend as if you were never hiding it in the first place. 2. You could turn around and enter your password secretly and make it obvious that you have been hiding it.

Either way, you would probably still be mad at your phone for the unpleasant password prompt surprise. While unlocking your mobile phone with fingerprint could be quite convenient, password prompts could occur at the most embarrassing moment!
