2. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When you register on our website, you may be asked to provide certain personal data for display on your profile. The “Name” field is required as well as public, and user profiles may be visible to any site visitor. Other profile information may be required or optional, as configured by the site administrator.

User information provided during account registration can be modified or removed on the Profile Settings panel. In most cases, users also have control over who is able to view a particular piece of profile content, limiting visibility on a field-by-field basis to friends, logged-in users, or administrators only. Site administrators can read and edit all profile data for all users.

You are required to create a username and password. We also ask for your name and email address. These are required in order to create a unique account for you on our website. We may also send you notifications from time to time through email about our latest posts and upcoming services and promotions. If you do not wish to receive such notifications, you can unsubscribe by sending us a request through our contact form or by using the unsubscribe link our notification email sent to you.

You would be required to provide your location details and biographical information. This is to optimize the networking feature of our website as it enables people to connect with whom they consider relevant in regard to specific interests. You may also upload your photograph to your profile to optimize your networking activities as these might enable other members to ascertain who you are.

If you decide to use video or voice call features on Scrollforth, you might be required to grant access to camera and audio features on your device. This is required for the functioning of the voice and call features.

When using the business listing feature on Scrollforth, you might be asked to allow access to your location. This is simply required to enable the automatic filling of your business location in the listing form.

We may collect and retain your IP address, browser details, and device details for up to 30 days when you visit our website or register. This is needed for analysis as part of our security measures to prevent instances of spam and abuse of our website.

When you use our classified listing service, you would be required to provide your phone number and email address to facilitate communication/correspondence in regard to any enquiry that might be made in respect of the listing.

If you participate in a poll on Scrollforth, your IP may be stored to prevent abuse of the polling system. This is to ensure that multiple votes are not submitted by you.

3. Social login

We offer social login options on our site for ease of registration and sign-in.

When you register or sign in to our site, you may choose to authenticate with Google Sign-In. If you choose this feature, we may use your name, email address, language preference and profile picture associated with your Google account for your profile details on our site.

You may also choose to authenticate with Facebook Connect when you register or sign in to our site. If you choose this feature, we may use your name, email address, and profile picture associated with your Facebook account for your profile details on our site.

4. How we protect your data

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to ensure that data transmitted over our web traffic, both incoming and outgoing, is kept safe from security threats or data breaches. We also strive to ensure that collected data is prevented from unauthorised access.

5. Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we may collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

6. Events

We may collect and store the information you submit to us when making a booking, for the purpose of reserving your requested spaces at our event and maintaining a record of attendance.

7. Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

8. Social sharing

We embed a Facebook widget to allow you to see a number of likes/shares/recommends and “like/share/recommend” our web pages. This widget may collect your IP address, your web browser User Agent, store and retrieve cookies on your browser, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the widget, including correlating your Facebook account with whatever action you take within the widget (such as “liking/sharing/recommending” our webpage), if you are logged in to Facebook. We use a Twitter Tweet widget on our platform. As a result, our website makes requests to Twitter’s servers for you to be able to tweet our web pages using your Twitter account. We use a Linkedin Share widget on our platform to allow you to share our web pages on Linkedin. These requests may track your IP address in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy

The pocket share widget is available on Scrollforth. If you use the Pocket share widget, Pocket may collect information about the URLs, titles and content of the web pages and other information you save to Pocket. Other types of information they collect include your browser type, device type, time zone, language, and other information related to the manner in which you access the Pocket Technologies. Scrollforth also provides a Pinterest share widget. When you share content to Pinterest, Pinterest's servers may automatically record information (“log data”), including information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website or your mobile app sends when you’re using it. This log data may include your Internet Protocol address, the address of the web pages you visited that had Pinterest features, browser type and settings, the date and time of your request, how you used Pinterest, and cookie data'. 9. Contact form

When you use our contact form, we ask for your name and email address for the purpose of correspondence.

10. Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login may persist for 1 year. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

We use a cookie to show success and failure messages to logged-in users, in response to certain actions, like joining a group. These cookies contain no personal data and are deleted immediately after the next page load.

We use cookies on the group, member, and activity directories to keep track of a user’s browsing preferences. These preferences include the last-selected values of the sort and filter dropdowns, as well as pagination information. These cookies contain no personal data and are deleted after 24 hours.

When a logged-in user creates a new group, we use a number of cookies to keep track of the group creation process. These cookies contain no personal data and are deleted either upon the successful creation of the group or after 24 hours.

We may use cookies to temporarily store information about a booking in progress as well as any error/confirmation messages whilst submitting or managing your events and locations.

We use cookies in polls to prevent abuse of the polling system. This means that when you participate in a poll on Scrollforth, a cookie may be stored on your browser to ensure that multiple votes are not submitted by you.

11. Google Services

We use Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging service to transmit push messages to our Mobile Application users. This enables users to get notifications on their devices for activities, such as messages sent to their Scrollforth account. Firebase may collect the following information in respect of user devices: application instance ID, user ID, operating system, device model, and geographical detail.

We use Google Analytics for our Android Mobile Application. We utilise Google Analytics data in advertising our services and also for maintaining and improving our services. We share Google Analytics data with Google marketing specialists and Google sales specialists so they can find ways to improve our configuration and analysis. Data collected through Google Analytics is also shared with Google to help improve Google’s products and services. We may use Google services to generate maps and provide autocompletion when searching for events by location, which may collect data via your browser in accordance with Google’s privacy policy.

12. Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

13. Activity

This site records certain user actions, in the form of “activity” data. Activity includes updates and comments posted directly to activity streams, as well as descriptions of other actions performed while using the site, such as new friendships, newly joined groups, and profile updates.

The content of activity items obeys the same privacy rules as the contexts in which the activity items are created. For example, activity updates created in a user’s profile is publicly visible, while activity items generated in a private group are visible only to members of that group. Site administrators can view all activity items, regardless of context.

Activity items may be deleted at any time by users who created them. Site administrators can edit all activity items.

14. Messages

The content of private messages is visible only to the sender and the recipients of the message. With the exception of site administrators, who can read all private messages, the private message content is never visible to other users or site visitors. Site administrators may delete the content of any message.

15. How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

16. What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

17. Where we send your data

We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
