'Soro soke' is a Yoruba phrase which means speak louder or speak up. It's a combination of two Yoruba words: Soro (speak) + soke (up). The phrase has recently become more of a slang. The phrase 'soro soke were' (speak up lunatic) was also used in some placards during the End SARS protest in Nigeria. The origin of the transition of 'soro soke' into slang is hard to trace. Some people attribute the transition to Toyin Afolayan Lola 'Idije' (a veteran Nollywood actress), while others say the phrase had been around for a while before she used it in a movie. The phrase could be used in a friendly or angry tone, depending on the mood of the user.
