Nigerian artiste Fireboy DML is a fast-rising Afro-Life singer. He has truly made a name for himself in Naija music.

Fireboy's real name is Adedamola Afefolahan. He was born on the 5th of February 1996 in Sagamu, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Fireboy was a member of his local church choir. He developed an interest in music while studying at Obafemi Awolowo University.

Throughout most of his adult life, he'd been writing poems. He had always known that he could sing since he was only a boy of 12 years.

Although he never acknowledged that he was a talented singer, he considered singing as something he was good at. He finally embraced music as a career during his university days. Fireboy performed at shows to earn money. After graduating from the university, he pursued his career more seriously and even paid money to perform at shows.

He released his debut album titled "Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps" in 2019. He came into the limelight when he dropped the hit song titled "Jealous". The song won Listeners' Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival and was nominated for Song of the Year.

Popular Nigerian artiste, Olamide, signed Fireboy to the record label "YBNL" in October 2018. At the time, Fireboy DML was relatively unknown. He distinguished himself from the Afro beats genre by creating his own music style which he calls "Afro-life." He revealed that his influences were artists like Passenger, Wande Cole, and John Belion.

Fireboy has never disappointed his fans ever since his breakthrough. He subsequently released more hit singles like "what if I say", "Eli", "Dreamer" and the likes.

New York City Girl

This song was released on the 22nd of June 2020. Produced by Type A and directed by Clarence Peters, the song was released shortly after Olamide marketed a joint venture deal with Empire Distribution. The song tries to capture the international market as it talks about the fleeting relationship between him and a girl from New York who he recently met, but wouldn't be around for too long as she would be leaving for summer.

This song racked up over 233k views on YouTube when it was first released and is among the most streamed songs on Apple Music's most-streamed songs.

ELI

This song was Fireboy's second official single of the year following the successful release of "New York City girl." The song was produced by in-house producer Pheelz and Directed by Clarence Peters. It was ranked among the top 40 on YouTube Charts after its release on the 24 of June 2020. The song talked about a girl he has become obsessed with, describing her with qualities that have him hooked up on her.

Tattoo

Fireboy released this song on August 12, 2020. The song is his third official single of the year and his fourth track in his sophomore project. Fireboy explains that his inspiration for the song came when he heard the beat which put him in the right mood. It's a song that sees Fireboy in a sensual mood and talks about desire as he attributes himself to be the tattoo on his lover's body.

Shadé

This is another catchy record Fireboy released this year. Produced by Pheelz, the song talks about his feelings for a girl named Shade. The love track is 13th off his 2020 album tagged "Apollo" which features artists like Olamide, Wande Coal, and D-Smoke.

Champion

Fireboy features American rapper D-smoke on this track. He declares himself a legend and a champion in the song with D-smoke taking up the second verse, making the track one of Fireboy DML's best. The song was ranked 3rd on the radio and iTunes charts, 6th on the Apple Music chart, and 51st on the YouTube chart.

Dreamer

This is another track on his Apollo album. In this song, Fireboy sings about a girl who leads him on. He is insecure about a relationship he is in and questions himself. The song's highest rank was 30th on the Apple Music chart and 49th on the Radio chart.

Friday Feeling

This is another masterpiece by Fireboy DML with production assistance from Type A, Pheelz, iAmBeatz, and P.Prime. This song is loved by many Nigerians and is set with a party theme. The official music video expresses the beauty of millennial friendships. This impressive song ranked 9th position on YouTube Chart, 24th on Apple Music Chart, and 20th on Radio Chart.

Fireboy DML has unarguably been one of this year's most consistent artists. He has come a long way from his humble beginnings and is certainly making waves. Fireboy has released many hits and while they may not have appeared on this list, they are undoubtedly as remarkable and worthy of praise.

Fireboy has also been doing well on the international scene and some of his songs were included in the FIFA 21 soundtrack. He is an artist to keep an eye out for as his future seems quite promising.
